Jocotepec square (plaza) is one of the beautiful ones on the Lake Chapala area. It is a picturesque and colorful traditional square of a town in Mexico. Jocotepec is located at the western end of Lake Chapala.
Present day Jocotepec has a population of about 18,000. Between five and seven percent are expats, most of them living in private properties and gated communities.
Those seeking authentic Mexican culture will find it in Jocotepec. The Sunday evening paseo at the plaza, where young ladies walk clockwise and young men walk in the opposite direction, is still a lively social event. Small restaurants under the arcades sell plates of birria (goat or mutton stew), too good to miss.
